Have you thought about potential pollution claims from Electric Vehicle fires? We have.

Jun 9, 2025

Have you noticed more electric cars (EVs) in your community? The International Energy Agency reports that at the end of 2024, there were “almost 60 million electric cars in use globally, and this is growing quickly. In 2022, this figure was just 26 million.”1  The majority are in China, Europe and America 2.

Let’s celebrate reduced emissions and lowered dependence on fossil fuels. On the other hand, let’s thoughtfully assess how to adjust your company’s property and casualty insurance.

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, you need to manage the risks of potential EV fires and resulting pollution claims.

Of course, property damage will occur from an EV fire, but pollution claims? Surprisingly, yes! Best practices have not been established yet in regards to containing or putting out EV fires; some industry experts call it “the Wild West.”. After an EV fire is extinguished on company property, your company may be responsible for a pollution incident. Will you be prepared?

It’s another reason to partner with Taylor Oswald insurance advisors to regularly assess and manage your company’s risks. We stay current on industry shifts that may not be visible to you. Pollution liability insurance policies, including products pollution, premises pollution, and contractor’s pollution liability (CPL), can cover a wide range of expenses related to pollution incidents. Our risk advisors will help you find the correct solution for your company, and can take a fresh look at all you do to recommend coverage you may not even know you needed, or reduce costs currently in your plan.
